I stumbled upon this website by accident, but I couldn't be happier to have had this accident. This definitly isnt private. I selected "no." I am stuck in English class. No quiero estar en la clase de ingles. This sight looks interesting. It looks extremely large, and makes me wonder who had the time to do this. They were probably paid. Here is my grammar advice to the world: a lot is two words. Wow, I am hungry. My stomach is growling. My English teacher likes your sight. Actually, I think he adores it, and is obsessed. We are taking one of your quizes now. So far, I am doing well, but I think he thinks that I am cheating. He will learn the truth when he sees my name absent from the New York Times tomorrow. Right now, I want a mango, with chocolate ice cream, and whipcream. That would be perfect. Instead, I will get nasty cafeteria food. You'd think at a private school they would have decent food. My school hasn't even fixed the clocks from the time change. Oops, I just missed a valuable test taking skill. Will he ever shut up? He has assighned us to do your quizes, but he cannot stop talking, what a shame. The bell. Thank god.

I think this is a useful site to a certain extent. I am an English teacher and have been for some 7 years. When I say English teacher, I mean English as a Foreign Language. We should always be aware of the way in which every language, if it wants to thrive, has to change and adapt. This is not something we can hope to 'freeze' at any one time. We cannot draw a line in the sand and say 'here and no further'. Many rules on your site are frankly out of touch with where 'real' English is going and you are in danger of encouraging people to attempt to prevent the language changing in a natural way. The language will move on anyway...it is bigger and uglier than any of us and nothing any of us will do will change that. Trying to inform people that the question "who did you go to the party with?" is anything but a perfectly normal question is running the risk of alienating a large proportion of the population who would say exactly this. Never forget that language is about communication. Period. Writing and rules came along thousands of years after people just got on with it and communicated. Writing meant of course that we had the ability to study the permanent form and make rules for ourselves. Languages transform themselves without our knowing participation so the very knowing form of grammatical analysis that goes on on (!)sites like this and in dusty, distant academic institutions around the country is like so much King Kanute posturing. You won't change anything...you'll just make some people feel unjustifiably 'stupid' because they are using an expression or a structure that will be perfectly acceptable in twenty years. just my two cents! ntc69@hotmail.com
